Funds no constraint for flood relief, says PM

RAICHUR: Moved by the intensity of the flood disaster in north Karnataka, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who undertook an aerial survey of the flood-hit areas, said that money would not be a constraint for the flood relief works.

After collecting detailed information about the tragedy, he told reporters that he was sharing sorrow and grief with the flood victims.

''It is a massive damage. I am not here to discuss on the nuts and bolts of the damages that occurred due to the floods and incessant rains. But I promise that the Central government stands with the state government on this matter. Money will not be a constraint to take up relief works,'' he said.

‘River interlinking a complex issue’

Commenting on the river interlinking projects, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh termed it a complex issue as it involves many environmental problems.

''However, the Central Water Resources Department will study the matter thoroughly before taking a decision,'' he said.

BJP leaders had asked the PM to convene a conference of Chief Ministers on the issue.
